In the 1930′s, country music was starting to spread, thanks to the discovery of the radio. This became a well-liked source of entertainment in a period of a strapped economy. Radio was entertaining, and, it was almost free. Gene Autry, Tex Ritter, and the Carter Family were all making their techniques in the expanding sector of music.

Each frontman had a nickname which applied to their notability in the world of country music, and Roy Acuff was no exception. Known to his fans as the “King of Country Music”, Acuff and his band, which was called “The Hazy Mountain Boys”, joined the Opry in the latter 1930′s. Acuff’s Opry celebrity lasted many years till he died in 1992.
The Grand Ol ‘ Opry went on to demonstrate plenty more vocalists, guys alike, with the addition of Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, and Tiny Jimmy Dickens, simply to cite a couple. In the 1950′s, the Carter Family was a maternally-directed group that consisted of Maybelle and her 3 children, Anita, June and Helen. This group joined the Grand Ol ‘ Opry and was called the First Family of Country Music. In future years, June would gain further public exposure when she modified her name to June Carter Money by marriage another country vocalist named Johnny Money . Although Cash’s early career was tormented by drug and drinking problems, he pulled thru it all and changed into a preferred music star.
Money was called the “Man in Black” because his outfits were always a solid black shirt, slacks, coat, and boots. Although they played fundamentally the same instruments, which most always included guitars and drums, some of the vocalists and groups that took the stages in the 1980′s had their own sounds. While Reba McEntire and Randy Travis had the tradtional country sound, a group known as “Alabama” hit the scene with a country / rock sound. Folks loved their music, though , and acquired their albums as quickly as they hit the stores.
